Skype for Desktop does not start minimized any more

Since about May or June 2020 just after an automatic update, Skype won't
start in the background anymore. When booting to Windows 10, 7, or linux
Mint, the Skype window opens up full screen.

The switches in the configuration of Skype are still set correctly, but
Skype seems to ignore the setting that it should stay hidden in the
background when starting.

Toggling the configuration switches and restarting Skype does not seem
to help.

The currently used Skype for Desktop version on all computers is 8.63.0.76.

Does anybody have any suggestions how to fix this issue?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Well, not minimised, anyway; on my system (W7-32) it comes up normalised
(is that the right word?) rather than full-screen. But I agree, it's
mildly irritating to have to minimise it.

Sorry, no. (If normalised would be less irritating to you than
full-screen, you might play with that.)

I don't use Skype, so I have to ask further questions, like how is it
started automatically on boot up? Is it:

A registry key - tricky unless there is a command-line option to
launch it minimised, but perhaps you could remove it from the registry
and instead add it as ...

A StartUp folder icon - you should be able to change the properties
of this to launch it minimised.

On my PC, there is a call to skype.exe (no arguments to it) at
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current User/Run.

It starts windowed (ie open rather than minimised, but not full-screen).

So I suspect that if you moved that to a StartUp folder shortcut, and
specified in its properties that it should start minimised, the desired
behaviour might be achieved.

No it does not. I have tried that and other ways to try to make it start
minimised and all have failed so far.

For clarification: Maurice, is yours opening normalised/windowed, or
actually full screen as you initially said?

Opening Normalized ie occupying about 2/3 of my screen area, which is
where I have set it for normal use. This is what I ment when I used
"full screen" -- sorry for the confusion.

Has anyone experienced a problem with Skype for Desktop which causes its
tray icon (in the system tray, bottom RHS of screen) to disappear? The icon
still occupies space between other icons in the system tray but it is
uniformly the background colour of the system tray. The fix is to quit and
restart Skype (logging out and back in without restarting Skype does not
work) - but it then fails after a few hours. I have V8.63.0.76, though it's
done it ever since I had to upgrade from Skype to Skype for Desktop a year
or so ago.

In both cases I've hovered the mouse over the visible or invisible icon to
show where the invisible one is.

Yes I have noticed this but minr goes to normal icon colour (green) as
soon as it opens to display full screen after boot up.

MS have just released an Skype update to version 8.64.0.80 which seems
to have solved the problem.
