Discussion:
Win11 Bloat Overload
(too old to reply)

Just purchased a Win11 laptop and was blown away at the immensity I am
greeted with on boot-up. There's lots of Win11 bloat removal links from
search to choose from, some simple, others tedious and some malware
infected.

I'd prefer the simplest and safest method since the laptop isn't a work
tool.

I'd prefer a desktop uncluttered and bloatware removed, if possible.

Anyone who has gone through this task and survived have any suggestions?

TIA

Check with alt.comp.os.windows- 11.

Reading Bill's 'Note' I was thinking "Wouldn't that, effectively, mean
the NG was just 'alt.comp.os.windows-'".

Sort of a General Purpose Windows NG!! ;-P

My desktop only had the Recycle Bin. Hardly "cluttered" is it!?

If you don't want to see any 'new' style UWP/Metro/Modern/<whatever>
'Apps', just normal Windows programs [1], I advise to install the
Open-Shell Menu and configure it to hide the 'Apps' section.

That way, Windows 11 looks quite like Vista/7/8.1/10.

If the "bloatware" are normal Windows programs, just remove them from
the Control Panel 'Programs and Features' section.

If they are 'Apps', It's probably best just to hide/not_see them.

FYI, I've been using Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 8.1 and 10 and
think Windows 11 can easily be made to look like a normal Windows
system.

Yes. So, what's new?
Bloatware is the age-traditional accompaniment of all new PC
installations I've ever loaded.

Where did you buy your new PC? Which OEM did you get it with (or fomm)?
I'd be very wary if mine came without any bloatware. That would signify
something suspicious.

Just google for "bloatware removal"; it's a winner.

As others said, you're in the wrong group. In general, I've seen talk
about Win10 debloater scripts. I expect there's probably a Win11 version.
Personally I'd be wary of such things. I've used Classic Shell, WinAero
Tweaker, Win10 Privacy and Windows Update Blocker.

But before you do all that, you might want to install a firewall,
like Simplewall. Then run the WUB first. Microsoft have developed
a nasty habit of just reordering your system as they like unless
you block them.

There are other tools for removing Edge
(https://github.com/ShadowWhisperer/Remove-MS-Edge) and instructions
available for removing apps via
PowerShell incantations. Also, look up Disable LUA if you want to
proceed without endless arguments. I've found on Win10, even
installing fresh without OEM crap, that turning of the inane "notifications"
was the most challenging task. But it was ultimately doable.
