I did it, and I am very sorry. I used to see a thumbnail of a .jpg,
.gif, or .ico file. Now I only see the file-type icons. How do I
restore seeing thumbnails?

Demonstrators worldwide are demanding that Israel stop
fighting in Gaza. Why does it seem that no one is demanding
that Hamas stop fighting? And where are the demonstrations
against Russia fighting in the Ukraine.

Two things to check:

Go to "Control Panel >> Folder Options >> View" and make sure that
"Always show icons, never thumbnails" is NOT check-marked.

In the folder itself, make sure the folder's "View" is set to one of
"Extra large icons", "Large icons", "Medium icons", "Tiles", or
"Content"; and NOT for example to "Small icons", "List", nor "Details".

Thanks a lot; I'd turned them off, and couldn't remember where.

I _think_ I did it because I asked if anyone knew how to turn off the
mini-screenshots that appear - and get in the way, being easy to click
on by mistake! - should my mouse stray into the taskbar and hover over
an open button (especially if it's one with multiple windows open).
Either someone suggested that was the way to stop them popping up (which
it doesn't), or I misinterpreted what they suggested. If anyone knows
how to stop them appearing, especially if it _doesn't_ stop the
thumbnails, please say!

No. I demur. Let it [the Royal Variety Performance] glitter ridiculously on, to
affirm that other people's pleasures, even ghastly ones, are part of the great
mouldy patchwork clown-trouser of the nation. - Libby Purves, rt 2022/12/17-23

The above is indeed the fix for my problem. Thank you extremely.
