Never before installed on this PC.
Now Downloaded the installer.
Included the PE. That was all fast.
Now installing . Doing initial "Installation of Macrium Reflect Free
Edition"
Ten minutes so far.
What's it doing?
I recently did that on a slow Win7-64 computer and a reasonable
connection and it didn't take long. I think it is downloading those
'pieces' that end up in the Macrium program folder, which total 130MB.
Where did you get the installer? I didn't like the way the
Paramount/Macrium site was rigged to obstruct downloading unless you
donated. I wasn't going to donate unless I used and liked the program.
I might donate now that I like what I've seen so far, but not in the
dark. I got my installer elsewhere than the developer site.
You get the stub loader here.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
The stub loader is here. That green button in
the upper right corner. The stub loader should
be 3MB or so (i.e. not a large file).
http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v6/ReflectDL.exe
That program will in turn, download two files. Pick
a PE version to suit the situation. I think PE5 may
support USB3.
The stub loader may "re-package" the files for
later (that ZIP). So these aren't exactly the files downloaded,
but the file set is useful later, for re-installation
without doing yet another download.
11/12/2015 3,545,552 ReflectDL.exe <--- stub loader
11/17/2015 197,696,981 pe5x64.zip \___ install
11/17/2015 42,288,592 v6.1.909_reflect_setup_free_x64.exe / files
11/17/2015 216,727,552 Rescue.iso <--- rescue boot CD for
Macrium, made after
you install it
Those are some examples from my Macrium archive.
The actual installer ("...6.1.909..."), when the install
is running, will prepare the ZIP, plus make a few other
copies in various places. For example, it may choose to
add an entry to the BCD, so you can boot to a standalone
Macrium from the computer itself, without a rescue CD.
The whole process shouldn't take ten minutes. And
once you're finished with ReflectDL.exe, there should
be no more downloads while the 6.1.909 type file is
doing the actual installation.
I've not been asked for a donation yet... :-)
