I have not bought any of these for decades because I had so many. I now
need a few new ones, but I don't know which brand(s) are any good. I
don't want junk. 32 Gb to 64 Gb would be adequate.

Are there any brands to absolutely not buy?

Someone on USENET bought one of these.
No comments since, on problems with it.
Looks like it might be available at three capacity points.

https://www.patriotmemory.com/products/rage-prime-usb-3-2-flash-drive

(Either it is thermally throttling, or it has a TLC two-level cache and ran out of SLC...)
(This is why we seek out reviews, to get the full scoop on an expensive device.)

"Transfer rates were initially pretty good at about 500 MB/s much like what we
observed during the synthetic benchmarks above. After just a few minutes, however,
transfer rates would drop to a more stable 220 MB/s or less than half of the initial maximum rate."

Devices like that, generally the outer dimensions do not allow
two of those to be adjacent to one another. Inside, they may have
a SATA SSD controller plus a USB to SATA converter. But this may also
signal that they have working wear leveling. You might buy a device like
that, purely for a report of working wear leveling (a lot of TLC sticks
don't last all that long, not getting even close to 600 write cycles).

There are physically larger USB solutions. A rectangular "thing" with
a captive USB "tail" on it. Some of those have USB3.2 2x2 2GB/sec
interfaces (USB-C connector), but they don't necessarily run all that fast.

It is possible to make storage devices, with consistent write speeds
from one end to another. These are made with 3D VNAND, where on the
outside of the box, it lists "MLC-like" as the fake cell type. the geometry
of the cells is a bit larger than normal, which can improve the storage
characteristics a tiny bit.

Many thanks for the info.
My need is not for such expensive solutions.

If anyone is considering this or similar fast solutions, remember to
check if the computer's USB has the required speed.

Never buy anything that is unbranded. :-):-):-) or the brands that you
have not heard of.

The Sandisk Extreme are faster than the Ultra. I bought
a couple Ultra by mistake, which is why I pass that along.
The Ultra aren't bad sticks, it's just that you can find
faster ones.

Read 420MB/s Write 380MB/s Different sizes, for the price conscious.
